Imphal: Manipur Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers, including one from Assam, following a review of the law-and-order situation in the valley districts by the state police chief on Friday, according to a police bulletin issued on Saturday.
During the first operation, Manipur Police arrested Dil Bahadur Chetry (41), a resident of Tinsukia under the Chapakhowa Police Station in Assam.
He was apprehended in the North AOC area under Imphal Police Station (Imphal West district) with 412 grams of WY (methamphetamine) tablets.
In a second operation, security forces apprehended Md. Farish Khan (28), a resident of Sangaiyumpham Nungphou Mamang Leikai under Thoubal Police Station in Thoubal district.
He was arrested at his residence along with several incriminating items, including 13.4 grams of heroin powder in two bottles, a plastic jar containing 17.9 kilograms of a suspected heroin solution, cash amounting to Rs 37,500, and a Honda Activa 6G scooter.
These arrests and seizures came after the Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur, Mukesh Singh, IPS, visited the Imphal East District Police Headquarters.
During his visit, he reviewed the law and order, crime, and operational situation in the district.
The DGP interacted with officers and emphasised the importance of quality investigations, effective supervision by senior officers, and timely disposal of important cases.
He stressed the need for proactive policing, intensified anti-insurgency operations, and firm action against anti-social and anti-national elements.
He also underscored the importance of maintaining discipline, integrity, and professionalism within the police force.
Appreciating the efforts of the district police, the DGP encouraged all ranks to continue discharging their duties with dedication and commitment towards ensuring peace, security, and public confidence.
