Imphal: As part of its ongoing community policing initiatives, the Manipur Police conducted a one-day Cybercrime and Drug Abuse Awareness Programme at Anita Standard High School in Bishnupur district on Tuesday.
Officers delivered informative lectures on various forms of cybercrime, preventive measures, and the harmful effects of drug abuse on students and society.
Participants were sensitized about safe internet practices and the importance of avoiding illicit substances.
A total of 50 students attended the interactive programme. During the session, students actively participated in a question-and-answer segment, seeking clarification on various issues related to cybercrime and drug abuse.
During the programme, police authorities raised serious concerns over the increasing circulation of unverified and provocative content on social media platforms.
Officials noted that inflammatory posts and unverified allegations have the potential to incite communal tensions, disturb public order, and seriously undermine social harmony.
The dissemination of unauthorized information can lead to severe misunderstandings and foster enmity among different communities.
To address this, the public has been strongly advised to exercise caution and refrain from believing, sharing, or forwarding unverified rumours, misleading posts, images, and videos.
Students and citizens have been urged to rely only on authenticated information and are encouraged to report or verify any suspicious content.
Authorities reiterated that the creation, uploading, publication, or circulation of fake, misleading, or objectionable content on social media platforms would invite strict legal action in accordance with the law.
