Imphal: In a joint counter-insurgency operation, the Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF) and Manipur Police recovered firearms, drone-dropped bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) after busting a temporary camp in Tengnoupal district along the Indo-Myanmar border.

Acting on intelligence about cross-border movement and the dumping of arms and other materials, the joint security team launched a search and area-domination operation near Border Pillar No. 73 under Moreh Police Station.

During the 24-hour operation in the border area, security personnel recovered a hidden cache from an underground location and surrounding forest.

A bomb disposal squad safely destroyed 14 high-explosive components, including active IEDs and wiring systems, at the site to prevent any danger.

The recovered items included an M-15 assault rifle with a magazine, an MA-G3 single-barrel rifle with a magazine, a .22 rifle and a country-made pistol.

Security personnel also recovered six single-barrel guns and two country-made rifles.

The explosives and ammunition recovered included five drone-dropped bombs, five active IEDs, two hand grenades, one tear gas gun, 17 rounds of tear gas ammunition and five live general-purpose rounds.

The cache also contained 10 tactical radio communication sets and two ballistic protection (BP) jackets.

No arrests have been made in connection with the recovery.

The seized items have been handed over to the local police for further legal action and investigation, including forensic examination of the weapons and their serial numbers.

Security forces have also intensified vigilance and patrolling along vulnerable routes along the international border following the recovery.
