Aizawl: In an important ministerial portfolio reshuffle, Chief Minister Lalduhoma has assumed charge of the key Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department, an official said on Friday.
The department was previously held by K. Sapdanga, who also oversees the Home, Urban Development, and Poverty Alleviation portfolios.
According to a notification issued by the Political and Cabinet Department on Thursday, the responsibility was assigned to the Chief Minister in the interest of public service with immediate effect, thereby relieving Sapdanga of the charge.
The sudden reshuffle comes amid rumours that the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is facing internal conflict.
Leader of the Opposition Lalchhandama Ralte alleged on Thursday that the ZPM is grappling with an internal rift that could shake the party’s foundation.
However, Lalduhoma firmly denied the claim, stating that the party faces no such discord and that its legislators remain fully united.
He dismissed the allegation as a political ploy by the opposition to undermine the ZPM and distract the public.
A party insider familiar with the development said the decision to reshuffle the portfolio came after the ZPM high command requested Lalduhoma to take over the department, citing a pressing need to reform its overall functioning.
