“The construction of the makeshift jetty is continuing in war footing mode and it will be completed soon,” said an official associated with the construction.

It may be mentioned here that the under-construction jetty is a floating jetty and around 700 plastic boxes are being used to construct it.

The construction of the jetty began from June 1.

Once completed, the jetty will be able to bear a load of around 12 tonnes at a time.

Once commissioned, the jetty will pave way for small vessels to ply between Sonamura and Daudkandi of Bangladesh.

The floating jetty, many of the locals feel, would bring about immense economic development to the region.
