Agartala: Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Tuesday announced the formation of a reforms committee for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), asserting that no illegal appointments would be allowed and calling for the resumption of talks on the proposed Tiprasa Accord with the Centre.
Addressing supporters through a social media livestream after a prolonged absence from day-to-day political activities due to his own health issues and those of his mother, Debbarma said the council would adopt new procedures to ensure transparency in recruitment.
“Not a single illegal job will be given in the TTAADC. New procedures will be followed,” he said, adding that reforms would bring changes that might not be welcomed by everyone.
He said the reforms committee would comprise young entrepreneurs, artists, writers and other members of the younger generation, who would be entrusted with direct responsibilities.
“The old-school politics is outdated. We want new politics. The notification for the reforms committee will be issued soon. I want to engage young people and prepare a new leadership,” he said.
Debbarma also urged the Government of India to resume discussions on the Tiprasa Accord, noting that four months had passed since the TTAADC elections.
“Talks on the Tiprasa Accord must resume now. We are not against the Government of India; we are working for the future of our next generation,” he said.
Speaking about his absence from public life, Debbarma said he had been undergoing medical treatment and that his mother was also facing health issues.
“It has been a very tough journey. I need some more time to recover, but I will fight to get fit, stay strong and secure the rights of the Tiprasa people,” he said, thanking supporters for their wishes and concern.
Referring to allegations of irregularities in TTAADC recruitment, Debbarma said he had directed the district council administration to cancel the entire recruitment examination.
“I don’t want people from outside to laugh at us. If there are allegations of irregularities, the entire examination should be annulled,” he said.
He also rejected criticism over his absence during recent developments, including issues involving student protests and the treatment of party leader Sanjana Debbarma, asserting that his commitment to the indigenous community should not be questioned.
“Never question my commitment to my community, my people and my cause,” he said.
It should be noted here that, Debbarman’s party Tipra Motha stormed back to power in the 2026 TTAADC elections held in April this year.
