In one of the biggest seizures of smuggled areca nuts consignments in Mizoram, troopers of Assam Rifles recovered an areca nut consignment in the Stateโ€™s Champhai district. 

The seized areca nut consignment is estimated to be worth Rs 7 lakh.

The Assam Rifleโ€™s Serchhip Battalion recovered a total of 50 bags of Areca nut from Tlangsam area in Mizoram. 

One person has also been arrested in connection with the seizure.

The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and Customs Preventive Force in Champhai district. 

The seizure was made on Wednesday.

โ€œOngoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border,โ€ the Assam Rifles said.
