Digboi: Schools in Assam’s Tinsukia district will close at 1:45 pm from August 12 due to the ongoing heatwave conditions.
The Regional Assam State School Education Board has revised the timings for all High, Higher Secondary and Senior Secondary schools in the district. The revised school hours will be from 8 am to 1:45 pm and will remain in effect until further orders or until conditions return to normal.
The order was issued by the Inspector of Schools, Regional Assam State School Education Board, Tinsukia District Circle, with the approval of the District Commissioner, Tinsukia.
The revised schedule applies to government, provincial, venture and private schools across the district.
Schools have also been directed to take measures to protect students from the heat. Morning assemblies must be held in shaded areas, classrooms must have adequate ventilation and students affected by the heat must receive immediate medical attention.
Students have been advised to carry water bottles and drink water regularly to prevent dehydration. They have also been exempted from wearing socks, shoes and neckties to reduce discomfort caused by the heat.
Schools have been directed to ensure adequate ceiling fans, proper internal electrification and safe functioning of electrical switches. Seating arrangements must also allow proper air circulation in classrooms.
Schools have also been instructed to maintain clean toilets and urinals and promptly inform students, parents, teachers and non-teaching staff about the revised timings and heat-safety measures.
The order, issued on August 11, 2026, has been circulated to the Director of Secondary Education, Assam, and the District Commissioner, Tinsukia.
