Guwahati: The Indian and Chinese armies reviewed the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kibithoo region, days after the two countries held Special Representative-level talks on the long-pending boundary dispute.
The corps commander-level meeting was held at the Wacha-Damai border meeting point, with discussions focused on maintaining peace and tranquillity along the frontier, people familiar with the matter said.
The Indian delegation was led by Lt. General Girish Kalia, commander of the Army’s Dimapur-based 3 Corps. There was no official statement on the meeting from either side.
The talks came amid reports of aggressive military posturing by Chinese troops along the LAC in the Upper Subansiri region of Arunachal Pradesh.
The meeting followed the Special Representative talks held in Beijing on August 25 between National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The discussions focused on the delimitation of the India-China boundary and continuing cooperation on trans-boundary issues.
At the meeting, Doval stressed the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border for the overall development of bilateral relations.
The Ministry of External Affairs had said the Indian side emphasised that peace and tranquillity in the border areas were essential for the continued development and progress of India-China ties.
Doval and Wang are the designated Special Representatives for the boundary talks mechanism, established in 2003 to address the India-China border dispute, which extends over 3,488 km.
The latest military-level engagement comes as the two countries have taken several steps in recent months to rebuild ties strained by the deadly Galwan Valley clashes in 2020.
