North Lakhimpur: A 62-year-old businessman from Dhakuakhana in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, who had been missing since Tuesday afternoon, was found dead inside the bathroom of a house located around 150 metres from his residence on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Pawan Jain, alias Punia. Jain had left his shop for lunch at around 1 pm on Tuesday and was last seen on CCTV footage riding a bicycle towards his residence.
When he did not return home and his mobile phone remained switched off, his family informed the Dhakuakhana police station about his disappearance.
Acting on the complaint, police raided the house of one Dhananjay Sahu, located near the Jain family’s residence, in the early hours of Wednesday. Jain’s body was found inside the bathroom, wrapped in a plastic bag.
Following the initial investigation, police arrested Sahu, his wife and their son and sent Jain’s body for post-mortem examination.
According to police, Sahu confessed that Jain was allegedly murdered by Raju Sahney, a resident of Sivasagar, along with another person.
It is learnt that Sahu had a transactional dispute with Jain over a loan that had not been repaid.
The incident has sent shockwaves in Dhakuakhana, with residents expressing concern over the security of common people.
