Imphal: Manipur boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam clinched a silver medal in the menโs 55kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after losing the gold-medal bout to Australiaโs Jye Dixon on Saturday.
Competing at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow, Jadumani went down 5-0 in a unanimous decision in the final. However, his silver medal finish marked a significant achievement for both Manipur and India, adding valuable points to the countryโs boxing campaign.
The Manipuri boxer, who moved up from the 50kg category to the 55kg division, ended his maiden Commonwealth Games appearance with a podium finish.
Congratulating Jadumani, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand praised his performance and fighting spirit in a social media post.
โHeartiest congratulations to Shri Jadumani Singh Mandengbam on winning the silver medal in the men’s 55kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Though the gold remained just beyond reach, your grit, resilience, and fighting spirit have inspired us all,โ the Chief Minister wrote.
He added that Jadumaniโs achievement reflected Manipurโs strong sporting tradition and noted that the state had contributed four medals to Indiaโs Commonwealth Games campaign.
โThe people of Manipur are immensely proud of you. Keep aiming higher and bring even greater laurels to the State and the nation,โ Khemchand said.
