Dimapur: Police in Nagaland’s Dimapur seized 19,760 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup during a raid at a warehouse in Marwari Patti on Tuesday evening.

Dimapur Police DCP (Crime), in a release, on Wednesday said that, acting on credible ground intelligence, a team from the Sub-Urban Police Station raided a warehouse located at House No. 23-B, Jain Temple Road, Marwari Patti, Dimapur. When the tenant failed to turn up despite repeated calls, ACP (West) ordered the opening of the locked godown.

To ensure complete transparency, the entire search was conducted in the presence of independent local witnesses, with the process digitally documented through the e-Sakshya platform, the release said.

During the search, 101 cartons of Bescod cough syrup containing 16,160 bottles and 25 cartons of EB-DYL cough syrup containing 3,600 bottles were found kept in rows of stacked cartons, along with several unaccounted pharmaceuticals.

A suo motu case has been registered under SBN PS C/No 046/26 U/S 21(C) of the NDPS Act, and a thorough investigation is underway to identify the warehouse operators, track the supply chain and dismantle the local distribution network.

Dimapur Police appealed to the public and civil society organisations to provide information regarding the sale of any form of narcotic drugs to the nearest police station, assuring that the identity of the informant would be kept confidential.
